Homemade Frozen Heart-Shaped Pizzas are the perfect Valentines dinner for your family. Make the pizzas and freeze them up to two months before the big day for a quick and homemade dinner.
If using store-bought refrigerated dough, put it at room temperature for two hours prior to baking. If using homemade dough, allow it to double in size before starting to work with it.
If planning to freeze this pizza for future use, place a piece of parchment on a metal pizza pan or heavy-duty piece of cardboard. If making fresh, skip down to "How to Bake Heart-Shaped Pizza".
Make a ball with the dough. If you are using homemade dough, the linked recipe will make two heart-shaped pizzas comparable to a medium-sized pizza.
Starting from the center, work your way out pressing the dough with your hands. Pull down the center top of the dough a bit with your pointer finger to create an indent (the middle part of the heart). Continue to press out until it has reached your desired size or until the integrity of the dough begins to be compromised by tearing.
Cover with sauce. Top with shredded mozzarella. Place additional toppings of your choice.
How to Freeze Heart-Shaped Pizza
Transfer the finished dough on the parchment onto a metal pizza pan or heavy-duty cardboard.
Place uncooked in the freezer for four hours or until fully frozen.
Cover tightly with aluminum foil and put in a spot in your freezer where it can be as flat as possible. Can be stored in the freezer for up to two months.
How to Bake Heart-Shaped Pizza
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. If you're using a cast iron pizza pan or a pizza stone, put it in the oven while it preheats.
If baking a fresh pizza: remove hot pan from the oven and sprinkle cornmeal on top. Carefully work the ball of dough into the heart shape. Cover with sauce, top with mozzarella, and toppings of choice. Bake for 8 minutes, then rotate and bake another 3-5 minutes or until the cheese is lightly browned on top.
If baking a frozen pizza: remove hot pan from the oven and place the parchment and frozen pizza directly on the pan. Bake for 10 minutes, then rotate and bake another 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is lightly browned on top.
Notes
Unbaked pizza will store fine in the freezer for up to two months.
