POOP in 15 – Home, day 1

What is POOP in 15?  It is a series for people who want more order in their lives, but don’t have a lot of time to devote to doing it.

This week, we’re focusing on the home.  A place where most of us spend too little time, and definitely not enough effort.  I find myself in that intersection often.  I could despair and tell myself that it will never be clean, so why even try, but that ain’t my thang.  Instead, I break it down in to manageable bites to keep tidy while preventing burnout.

Today’s task: Get three huge garbage bags, or boxes, or tubs, and fill them with things to donate to charity.  These are things that mock you every time you see them because they’re just taking up space in your house.  You’re never going to wear those clothes, use those pans, or read those books.  And that giant pile of magazines you’ve been hold on to for so long?  TOSS THEM.  Take them to a thrift shop, and let someone else enjoy them while you enjoy a less cluttered house.

Note: I’m only saying to work on this for 15 minutes, but if you’re like me, once you start you may not be able to stop!

  1. your “click here” link isnt working 🙁

  2. You always come up with the better name for things, I’ll admit. I don’t think I own 3 bags’ worth of stuff in total, but I can definitely work on unpacking myself and throw out the boxes. I’ll try to get to that today.

  3. perfect timing! We are making a trip to the consignment/thrift store today. I’ll have to see what else we can find to bring along.

  4. I have clothes that I wear on(not in, on) a box in my room because my drawers are stuffed (and I mean stuffed) with clothes I don’t wear.
I already recycle magazines once I have read them and I already thrifted my excess books a while ago. Funny you mention pans, I replaced my crappy ones several months ago but kept the crappy ones just in case I returned the replacements. I forgot about them. they aren’t worth passing down, but I will throw them out! Thanks for the reminder!
I’m going to imagine that you are going to come here and kick my butt if I don’t take care of these today. We will see if I procrastinate….

  5. WHY is it so hard for me to get rid of things??? I am trying but it is so HARD!!! And I have to admit – I do love all my ‘stuff!’ I could not live a minimalist life. Once when we had someone in the house to do some work and he said, “Lady, this is the most HIGHLY occupied home I have EVER been in!” I love to visit clutter free homes…..I just can’t LIVE in one! Guess it takes all kinds. And I even love to CLEAN! I know! I KNOW!! I am nuts!!!
